Tips and Tricks

Satin floss is very slippery, and may feel untamable as your stitches need to be tight and precise. It is important to start outsecuring your threads by goingback and forth under two rows of stitches. Similarly when you are finished stitching secure the thread. Prevention is better than a cure.

While stitching, hold your thread tightfrom the back tokeep your stitches tight against the canvas. Take your time. You will have better control over the placement and laying of your stitches. This will take a bit of getting used to but the effort is worth it.

The rayon in this thread does not have tensile strength and is prone to breakage. For instance, while pulling the thread through rough canvas can causethe satin thread to shred and fray with each pass through the fabric. Using shorter lengths of thread and a larger needle is recommended.

If your satin thread becomes twisted while stitching, simplydrop the needle and allow the thread to unwinditself. Do it often to keep your thread flat. Use a laying tool as well. You’ll have less knotting and twisting if you use shorter lengths (12″).

Trymoistening the thread with a damp clothbefore threading the needle. The threads will quickly dry but will flatten slightly allowing you to stitch more easily.
