Scrap yarn in a contrasting color

Gauge 23 sts and 28 rows in pattern on needle size 4 mm = 10 x10 cm / US 6 = 4 x 4 inches

Procedure
The hat and mittens are worked in the round, from thebottom up. Cast on stitches and work a rib edge, thenswitch to the wrap pattern and knit straight up, afterwhich decreases are worked in the pattern, and stitchesare bound off. The mittens are worked the same wrappattern, but on the mittens, a contrasting yarn is workedin the middle of the work for the thumb. Finally, thestitches from the contrasting yarn are picked up, and thethumb is knitted. The pattern may cause the hat andmittens to twist slightly, but this can be straightenedwhen washed and steamed afterwards.
